What is metaphysical progress?
Journey of the soul...
What I like to share with you today is a story that took me 23 years to figure out. A story I have only recently felt confident enough to tell to others, although I feel there are parts of it that I am still learning to fully understand.
It begins in a space between spaces, a quiet space, a resting place where all is balanced and there is no conflict, aggression or duality.... Some call this place Heaven; some call it simply a place of resting.
As is the case for most of us, I do not have conscious memory of this place. When I meditate I sometimes enter a state of complete tranquility, an equilibrium that I imagine must be what its like, but I cannot know for sure.
What I would like to tell you about is something that has interested me since I can remember, and what I have to say is based on my observations and experiences during the past 24 years.
What happens to us when we are born? In fact, why are we born in the first place? We seem to have no memory of our reasons for being born by the time we start thinking about it, and that all of us start thinking about what we are doing here on earth at some point is a fact!
What follows is a symbolic analogy that I have put together in order to better understand the reasons we are here and spend any length of time confined within a physical body, in this reality we call earth...
I hope that my observations and conclusions will serve to enlighten and inspire you to look beyond the obvious, the material, that which in fact only sets the stage for the journey of the Soul...
When we are born into this reality, we are born as the Wise One. We know everything, and we are not afraid of anything. We have a life plan, a purpose and a clear goal of the spiritual growth our Soul would like to attain during its time on earth.
In the form of the helpless infant, the Wise One soon forgets the reasons why it has come to earth as memories of other dimensions fade and are replaced by the wonderment and brightness of this illusionary world and its enchantments.
Our Soul is now an Innocent Child, new to every sensation, stranger to every touch, but learning fast how to satisfy its needs and cravings. At some point, usually during the first nine years of childhood, the Innocent Child has an experience that causes it to realize, with a shock, that Earth is not safe!
This experience is usually traumatic and painful. It occurs in order to draw the Soul's attention to the reality of the world it has been born into. This first experience of "danger" activates the awareness of the Soul's vulnerability and the first phase of the Soul path is activated.
We have now become the Victim. We feel exposed and start to distrust and question the things and people we used to take for granted as being "safe". We realize that we will have to learn how to protect ourselves if we want to have any real chance of surviving here.
This is a necessary occurrence because without this state of victim consciousness being induced, a soul can drift through its time on earth in a haze of unchallenged bliss, without really expanding or growing much.
When the awareness that we need to protect ourselves sets in, the Warrior is awakened. The inner Warrior is a very powerful archetype for the simple reason that it has to be! It has to ensure our survival, in order for the process of spiritual growth to take place.
The intensity of the manifestation of the Warrior Archetype in a person is directly related to the intensity of the trauma experienced when the Soul path was activated. For this archetype, it is all about self-preservation and self-protection.
If the warrior perceives the inner Being to be in any kind of danger, be it physical or emotional, it will go to any lengths to protect itself. As can be expected, the warrior's perception of danger is shaped by the duration, depth and intensity of the initial trauma and its reaction to perceived "danger" will vary accordingly.
Every time it overcomes "danger", the experience of invulnerability becomes more powerful and enticing and Warrior Archetypes, when left unchecked, can often manifest as strident, driven and seemingly successful individuals. At closer inspection though, it can usually be observed that these individuals have a great need for control, as it makes them feel strong and less at the mercy of a world that they may still experience as intensely unsafe at some level.
Their apparent "success" can only last so long for as it might be in line with the expectations of the material world, it has absolutely nothing to do with the agenda of the Soul.
In order to re-connect the warrior with its spiritual reason for being on earth, the inner Mystic, Medicine man or Shaman appears. We usually notice the inner Mystic for the first time when all is going according to plan and then suddenly, out of the blue, disaster strikes!
The disaster can take any form but it is usually an event or occurrence that is devastating to the individual at a very personal level. Such an event is inevitably the work of the inner Mystic. The inner Mystic has only one agenda, one purpose and one goal - to connect the personality with its Soul path and to keep it connected at any cost...
Depending on the spiritual intelligence, aptitude and knowledge of the individual, this connection can either happen instantly, where one realizes almost immediately what is going on and start paying attention to the underlying reasons for disaster to have struck, or it can be a long and arduous journey of falling down and getting up over and over again...
The inner Mystic has no rules and no conscience. Its only objective is to distract the Warrior from its mission of "success" (in other words never getting hurt again) long enough to meet the inner Healer. If the inner Mystic fails to do this, no healing or spiritual growth can take place and although an individual may seem to have had a materially successful life, for its Soul, the lifetime on earth would have been a failure.
Therefore, you see, the inner Mystic really has nothing to lose... It will go to any lengths and stop at nothing in order to cause a Spiritual awakening.
Bearing this in mind let me now tell you about the inner Healer. The inner Healer knows exactly what the inner Child needs in order to balance its perception, heal past wounds and ultimately expand the consciousness of the Soul. Its medicine is abstract, unusual and unconventional and only when the Warrior has learned to trust the process, true inner healing can begin.
Trusting the process is usually very hard for the linear, goal-orientated Warrior to do and it will often take quite a few mystically induced disasters and traumas for the Warrior to make the leap and start looking for the medicine that the inner Healer requires.
It is at this point that the individual starts to reach out (often in desperation and only as a very last resort) to outside help. With the help of a friend, mentor, family member or trained therapist, a healing process can then be initiated. This is the most important part of the journey of the soul and once embarked on, has the potential to become a miraculous experience full of unexpected revelations and awe-inspiring paradigm shifts...
Once a Soul has become conscious of its spiritual Path, the whole Universe is on standby to give it all the guidance, inspiration and support needed for an optimal experience of spiritual expansion and growth... All one needs to do is to allow Divine Help, Inspiration, Wisdom and Guidance to form an active part of the journey.
This may sound easy, but it takes courage, determination and constant reminders for us to stay consciously AWAKE and not get lost in the glamour and distractions of the material world. To help us stay on the path, our original symptoms or problems might persist, along with new challenges.
It is when we can see these symptoms and challenges as friendly thought, often poignant reminders of our path rather than dangerous and threatening random events, that we have reached the final phase of our journey...
Our Soul is now turning into the Wise One once again; only this time the ability to remain spiritually conscious and connected to the Divine has been achieved. We are now able to enter a state of Grace where we live a Spiritual life, no longer distracted by the enchantments of the material world.
As the Wise One, we are able to maintain a perspective that keeps us in a state of inner equilibrium, regardless of life's challenges. Wise Ones often look at the world with child-like wonder while somehow retaining the ability to stay objective, detached and able to refrain from judging the dysfunction they come across.
They see everything and everyone as DIVINE and are no longer victims of their circumstances, whatever that might be. It is as if they have a Secret and if you ask them about it; it is one they are more than willing to share. They have made the Divine Connection and live in a world where absolutely anything is possible!

Testimonials
Let me start at the beginning - it was in February of 2004, aged 65 and four months, that I had a lumpectomy and underwent thirty radium treatments.
I continued to go for various tests and to see my oncologist regularly, but by July of 2006, was feeling very tired and an MRI was the way to go. It was found that the cancer had spread to my lungs.
